From December 2023 to December 2024, Burn raised £675 for The Clothing Bank.
Established in January 2020 by Susan Bell and Sally Parkinson, originally just in a passage-way between two friends’ houses, The Clothing Bank now has volunteer drop off points at over 120 locations throughout the UK and has helped more than 20,000 people struggling to clothe themselves or their family after coping with everyday living costs.
Following the collection when Keir Mather MP nominated the charity as he switched on our Christmas lights in December 2023, cash was also raised by the ‘Santa sleigh tour’ of the village, our brilliant ‘Big Lunch’ in June 2024 and the big whisky bottle on the bar in the Wheatsheaf. The money was handed over to Sally Parkinson, one of the two founders of the charity, on Saturday 14 December 2024.
Keir Mather said: “At a time when many families are still feeling the cost-of-living crisis, it is so important to recognise the kindness of others to help those local to them. I’d like to thank all those who donated – big or small – your contribution will help those who need it most.”
For The Clothing Bank, co-founder Sally Parkinson added: “It really means a lot to The Clothing Bank as a charity to have local support and this donation is going to help so many working people who are struggling here in the UK.”
Burn Parish Council chairman Alice Houlden said: “We are delighted to donate this money to The Clothing Bank, which does an amazing job for people facing financial challenges. We are proud of what a very small community has managed to raise.”
