The Team
The People who make us
Nothing could happen in Burn without the generously donated time and efforts – and sometimes financial support – of many volunteers.
Our elected Parish Councillors do not receive any salary, expenses or gratuities and our team of ‘elves’ and other helpers give freely and willingly of their time and skills.
We also have many people living in Burn who can offer professional trades . We are often asked if we know a builder, an electrician, a plumber, someone who can tidy a garden – and while we do not take advertising on this website, in the future, we will be happy to include contact details for anyone resident in Burn who can offer their skill to their neighbours. This will not endorse that business or individual and will not mean we accept any liabilities arising from supplying the contact details. In the meantime check out the Village Facebook Page as recommendations can often be found there.
Village Volunteers
From helping to decorate Santa’s sleigh and walking round in sleet and snow with collection buckets dressed as elves, keeping the village planters full of flowers, sweating it out in a furry bunny outfit, creating beautifully wrapped little gifts for each household, writing quiz books, painting silly decorations (and putting them up on lamp-posts – and taking them down again) to writing and printing village flyers, planning Big Lunches and publicising everything Burn gets up to…….Burn has a quiet army of volunteers who make things happen…..
Chairman
Alice Houlden
I am Alice and I have lived in Burn for 10 years. I love living in Burn as we have a great sense of community.
I joined the social committee during COVID because I wanted to give back to our community and to bring a bit of cheer to residents’ during lonely times. I joined the Parish Council in June 2022 to further support our community and do what I can in the best interests of Burn.
I am new to the world of being a parish Councillor, I work for the local NHS as a care coordinator, looking after some of our most vulnerable adults within the Selby District.
Whilst I am on the Parish Council I hope to serve the community of Burn, upholding the views of the residents and keeping it a safe and kind place to live and raise a family.
My spare time is largely spent with my family. We enjoy supporting our lovely pub and having a family meal there. We also love walking, hiking and visiting beaches.
Vice Chairman
Andy Ransome
After living in Burn for twelve years, I joined the Parish Council in November 2022, with the aim of helping and supporting our community.
I am a farmer in this area and aim to bring a hands-on, practical approach to issues and achieve the very best we can for the village and its residents.
Country-side sports, shooting and farming are my main interests – apart from spending as much time as possible on family life with my wife Robyn and our two small children.
Councillor
Paul Armstrong
I have been a proud resident of our village since 2015. As an active and enthusiastic member of the community, you might know me as the Easter Bunny or one of Santa’s elves during Christmas, roles I thoroughly enjoy as they bring joy to children and families. I also lend a hand at various village events, contributing to the vibrant community spirit.
In addition to my community involvement, I serve as a governor for Brayton Primary School. My background as a former teacher allows me to offer valuable insights into educational matters. Currently, I work in the field of cyber security, where I prioritise the safety and well-being of our community, leveraging my expertise to ensure a secure environment for everyone.
You might also recognize me by my dog, Obi, who often accompanies me around the village. My commitment to our community and its residents is unwavering, and I take great pride in participating in and leading local events and initiatives.
My vision for our parish is to foster a safe, inclusive, and vibrant community where everyone feels valued and secure.
Councillor
Jenny Durnin
I joined the parish council in May 2024 after living in the village for just over three years.
During the time we have lived here my family and I have been made to feel so welcome and we love the community feel of the village.
I joined the council to try and help contribute to maintaining that community spirit also to help provide any support I can.
Having two daughters I am keen to retain the family orientation of Burn and try to improve amenities for our young ones.
I have worked locally for many years as a contact lens optician and outside work spend most of my time on our on-going home renovations or walking and cycling around the local area with my husband and our girls.
Councillor
Eileen Boldan
A resident of Burn for over fifty years, I am well-known as a local farmer.
I joined the Parish Council in 2000, with the aim of supporting the community where I and my family live and work and to open up opportunities for the residents of Burn to enjoy living here, feel included and encouraged to join in village events and activities.
When not busy with the demands of a farming life, I enjoy travelling and I am a keen reader.
Councillor
Nick Fawcett
For much of my working life, I was account manager for a major player in the consumer home electronics industry.
Following that, I worked in insurance and sales management, hence my ‘gift of the gab’!
I moved to Burn in 2014 and enjoy DIY, having renovated two properties since moving here.
Burn is a lovely village with an outstanding community and I am highly motivated and committed to help make sure it continues to be so.
If you have any suggestions or ideas as to how things can be improved in any way, please do let me know. I will be happy to raise any matters and concerns at our monthly parish council meetings.
You will often see me in and around the village walking our little dog Nellie – so please do feel free to chat.
North Yorkshire Council
Cliff Lunn
I live in Thorpe Willoughby and attend the Parish Council meetings in Burn as an observer, having been a North Yorkshire councillor since 2017.
I trust that my background in local government, finance, education – and as a self employed newsagent – helps Burn maximise its potential and take care of its residents.
My role is chiefly to supply information from, feed back concerns to and act as a link to North Yorkshire Council.
My main interests outside work and council duties are spending time with family and travelling.
