A big Burn thank you to six cadets from the RAF Section of the Combined Cadet Force from the Read School at Drax who removed weeds and trimmed back overgrown shrubbery on our ‘village green’ on October 11 in readiness for Remembrance Sunday – all part of the cadet force’s commitment to be of service and engage with local communities.

This was a return visit for the cadet force, as members first visited the village war memorials area in 2023.

Parish Council chairman Alice Houlden said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the cadet force back to Burn. Besides regular grass cutting, upkeep of our ‘village green’ falls to village volunteers, so we really welcome their efforts – and youthful enthusiasm and energy. Thanks are due also to a number of village residents who turned out with garden tools and rubbish bins and some words of guidance for our young ‘gardeners’.”
