Cadets from the Combined Cadet Force at the Read School, Drax joined us in Burn on Sunday November 9 to mark Remembrance.

The cadets, accompanied by Pilot Office Annette Oliver, OC RAF Section and family members, laid the wreath honouring the Royal Canadian Air Force 431 ‘Iroquois’ (The Snowbirds) Squadron at the service which was led by Martin Pascoe on behalf of Burn Methodist Chapel.

Wreaths were also laid and memorial crosses left for RAF 578 Squadron and others by members of Burn Chapel, Burn Parish Council, RAF Veterans and families of former servicemen and women.

Our airfield saw members of the Royal Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force fly out on bomber missions over enemy territory during the Second World War.

Burn Parish Council chairman Alice Houlden said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the cadets and their families once again. It gives such a sense of continuity to our Remembrance Service, given Burn Airfield and the memorials have such strong connections to the RAF and RCAF.”
