Burn Parish Council

About Us

Burn Parish Council, under the chairmanship of Councillor Alice Houlden, meets, with some publicised exceptions, on the last Thursday of each month in Burn Methodist Chapel schoolroom at 7pm. Any changes due to planned or unforeseen circumstances are publicised on this website and in the Parish Council noticeboards prior to any re-scheduled dates.

Our Mission

The Parish Council’s elected members work on a voluntary basis and do not claim expenses relating to their role as councillors.

The council has a range of discretionary powers, including raising a precept – a form of council tax used to fulfil duties and raise funding on occasion for community driven projects. It has limited direct powers but negotiates with and influences organisations which make the final decisions. The council liaises with NYC, North Yorkshire Police, and comments on all planning applications, represents village interests with other groups, manages village assets, supports village events and initiatives.

The Parish Council aims to be open and accountable and encourages residents to attend the meetings.

Alice says: “This is your village, this is your Parish Council and we are here to listen to your views and to represent you.”
